Student Loans for Living Expenses

With all of the different types of education loans you can get, it can be tricky to know which one can cover which items. One of the most common loans that students get is a private student loan. Many students are not aware of exactly what they can use their private student loans for. These types of loans are good for the students who need something to help fill in where they fall short.

The interest on private loans can vary depending on the company that offers them. These private loans will help a student cover expenses that many regular federal loans do not. There is more to a college education than just the classes and the books. Students need to consider what their living expenses will be as well as how they are going to get to and from their classes each day.

While some students may have scholarships or even grants and some may even be studying abroad, there may be times when these grants, internships or scholarships do not cover all of the things you need. Living expenses would include such things as room and board as well as food and your travel expenses. Perhaps you have a student bus pass; this can be paid for under your private loan. Also many student loans do not cover such things as your application fee for applying to college as well as any testing fees. This is where the private loans also come in handy.

If you are going to college on scholarships or grants that you can use those to pay for college tuition and get books. If you find that you are unable to keep a full-time job with being in school full-time then you should consider getting a private loan to help you pay for your housing as well as how you get to and from school. These loans can be used for anything to help you make ends meet and keep you in school were you want to be.

If you’re just starting school and you want to be sure that your savings can cover all of your expenses on your own, then you may want to look into student loans from for-profit companies. You can talk with your bank to see if they offer any private loans as well as check with your financial aid department at your college. They can help point you in the right direction as to where to find the best private loans.

Hello,

I am just inquiring about any information that relates to getting a loan for living expenses. I am unsure of what I can do. I have a scholarship but the OhLap did not fund the same as it did in the fall as it did for that spring so I was about 2000.00 short and that is about how much I need to be able to pay for my living expenses.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

Hey Cassandra,

There are many different loans that cover living expenses.

You can approach a bank to get a private loan, or you can go to your financial aid office and ask if they have any certified loans.

Either of those options will work (as well as many other), and you could also fill out FASFA to make sure you will be able to have enough money for next year.

Good luck,
Eric Olsen

Now that the federal regulations are even more involved with the private student loans and are given the authority to the financial aid offices of the schools, students are not able to pay their living expenses. All that is allowed is between 2500 and 3500 a year. This hardly pays for the college year and if you are going full time and can only swing a part time job. You will be living in the street soon. Most community colleges can only certify 25,000-30,000 a year and that is if you do not use a fafsa. If the college requires you to do a fafsa then they subtract the cost of the tuition and efc, therefore only allowing them to certify between 12,000 to 13,000 a year. If you live in California, florida, texas you are on the street. You can not pay for an apartment, rent, food, computer, deposits, gasoline, etc even with a room mate. So whats left to help?? Can not find a thing. We are going back to the 1950′s where only the rich can go to college. Some One greatly screwed up College students who need this aid. Their intent to keep students from defaulting only loans, bankruptcy and high indebtness may have been a goal, but they did not throughly OR DID THEY, check this out before enactly such a rule. Now middle class and lower class are being kept out of college when they need it to go to survive in this world. Did you know alot of fast food facilities in california are using associates degree’s as screening tools now to be employed? I need some help here, Please
